Have a break with Thai dessert?
Here I’ll write about Thai Desserts that you won’t find easily to eat. I got an idea to write this post while I was thinking about my lunch, hahaha. And I found out that they made my stomach cried for some food. So, I’ll share my feeling of hungriness for you guys, xoxoxo
1. Khanom Panthong (ขนมพันตอง)
Khanom Panthong is separated into 2 packs, first is the mix of filling which are coconut and sugar, and then mold them together, second is undiluted coconut milk, flour, salt and sugar, and then put them into the pack. To make it delicious, you’d better eat them (2 packs) together.
For whom who wants to know how to make this dessert: Khanom Panthong (described in Thai)
2. Khanom La (ขนมลา)
You can find Khanom La in the south of Thailand. There are 2 types of this dessert - soft and crusty. I once ate soft one from my friend, of course, she’s from the south of Thailand. I hope to eat crusty one but it’s quite hard to find.
Khanom La is hard to do also. You have to need time and more space to do this. I’ve read from "Khanom La - Proud of The South" which told that soft Khanom La is harder to do than the crusty one.
3. Pink Pollen or Khanom Gesorn Chompu (ขนมเกสรชมพู)
Khanom Gesorn Chompu is made of scraped coconut frying with water, sugar and jelly, then drop some pink and mix them together. The taste of this dessert is sweet and smell is good from the coconut.
Here is the link "How to made Khanom Gesorn Chompu" (described in Thai)
4. Khanom Prong Samae (ขนมโพรงแสม)
Khanom Prong Samae is made for wedding ceremony. This is the symbol of a main post of a house. It means indissolubility and richness. If you know another Thai dessert, you will found out that it looks like Thong Muan (Rolled Wafer), but this one is differentiated by covered sugar.
5. Khanom Tubo (ขนมตูโบ้)
Tubo is local dessert in Phuket (southern province in Thailand). It’s kind of sweetmeat made of fruit or vegetable or cereal boiled in coconut milk and sugar. You can eat it in cold or hot also.
This "How to cook Tubo" will make you hungry! (described in Thai)
6. Khanom Tien Kaew (ขนมเทียนแก้ว)
Khanom Tien Kaew (means Glass Candle) or Khanom Nom Sao (means Woman Breast) is the symbol of light. The correct shape of this dessert is square base pyramid and it must stand itself. It made of steamed green beans (use only seed) stirred with coconut milk and sugar, then bake it with candle smoke, after that mold it with green bean flour and sugar and water with jasmine.
If you’re confused about the description I wrote above, look at "Recipe of Khanom Tien Kaew" (described in Thai)
7. Khanom Sam Gleur (ขนมสามเกลอ)
Khanom Sam Gleur (means 3 friends) is used for casting lots in wedding. If all 3 pieces are still together whilst casting, it means spouse will be live together forever and will have a baby but if 2 pieces are together, it means spouse will have a baby hardly or won’t have a baby, and if all 3 pieces separate, it means spouse will live together shortly.
Here is the link for recipe of Khanom Sam Gleur (described in Thai)
8. Khanom Talum (ขนมตะลุ่ม)
Talum is also Thai dessert that is hard to find to eat. As you see in the picture above, there are 2 parts of this dessert, one is made of tapioca flour (potato flour), lime-water and diluted coconut milk which are steamed, and the second one is made of undiluted coconut milk with a bit flour poured on the top of the steamed one, and steam it all again. When you’d like to eat, you can cut it into square or another shape you would like to.
Here’s the clip of Thai TV program "Khanom Thai, Arai Aei" on Thai PBS
9. Khanom Moh Tarn (ขนมหม้อตาล)
Wow, we found the dessert that use in wedding again! This dessert also called “Moh Ngern - Moh Thong” (means silver pot - gold pot). In the picture, you’ll see 2 parts, outside looking like a basket and inside is the filling. The basket outside is made of mixed flour, cold water and yolk that have already baked. The filling is made of simmered sugar with color for food.

10. Khanom Bulan Dan Mek (ขนมบุหลันดั้นเมฆ)
Bulan Dan Mek (means Bulan ventures through the cloud) is the old Thai dessert of palace people which is inspired by the royal song of King Rama II of Siam (Thailand). In the song refers to the woman named Bulan flying on the cloud. The blue one is made of flour, sugar and water of blue pea (also called butterfly pea) that already steamed. The yellow one is made of eggs, coconut milk, coconut and sugar that already steamed also. When you eat it, you will smell the good smell of blue pea and coconut. Can anyone imagine that “How Thai architectural style can match cold weather in western country?”
But the picture above told that it can situated on that white snow.
Thai houses of Echo Valley Ranch were designed by Dr. Phinyo Suwankiri. These Thai architectural style are the first Thai architecture built in the frigid location. Natural mineral water around there was runned to nourish tubes to keep the houses warm. Moreover, Rock Cabin, native wood from cedar and oak, and local materials were applied to construct these houses, these houses were changed the way of design of construction to bear weight of snow, and built these houses into western way to match the weather.
You can see the delicate and beautiful of these houses appear through the snow, and know that these houses are comfortable to live in. Look at the basement transformed to natural mineral bath surrounded by mirrors to see through the nature in different seasons.
